Housing Health and Safety Rating System Training (HHSRS):

Understanding Housing Standards and Safety

Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS) course provided me with the skills to navigate and apply the vital framework for assessing housing conditions.

The HHSRS is essential for identifying and addressing potential health and safety risks in residential properties, making it a key tool for anyone working in housing, environmental health, or home adaptations.

The course focused on building an understanding of the HHSRS, covering everything from the 29 hazards to look out for to practical guidance on conducting assessments and determining appropriate interventions. The training was structured to ensure I not only meet the required competency standards but also feel confident in applying the framework effectively in my employment and property business.

Detailing Housing Health and Safety Legislation

Awaab’s Law, introduced in the Social Housing Regulation Act 2023, requires landlords to fix health hazards quickly in social housing.

Social housing quality has improved since 2010, but around 217,000 socially rented homes are still affected by dangerous health and safety hazards, costing around £65 million a year for the NHS.

HHSRS is a risk-based evaluation tool used by local authorities to assess potential hazards in rented properties, such as dampness, excess cold, electrical faults, fire, and falls.
